I saw the Hobbit part 3 last night.
The trilogy has turned out to be somewhat different from Lord of the Rings, hasn't it? It doesn't seem quite the same. I very much enjoyed it, despite the massive departures from the book. It does link by the end into LotR by the end, though.
Very much an end of an era, barring any adaptions of Children of Hurin, though- no more Peter Jackson universe films. Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood and Ian Holme will remain in the Grey Havens. Viggo will always be king and Sauron finished.
It is then with beautiful symmetry, then, that against this familiar crinkled background I announce that I too must away.
This site has been a part of me formany years. Since 2007 I have been staff at BFME2H. I have been posting since 2005. I have over 30,000 posts. I have laughed, I have argued, I have judged and been judged in return. I have missed. I have created. I have locked, and yes, once in a while banned. Though I have met only two people in real life from this site, I count many from here as friends of varying sorts.
Perhaps I wasn't the best for this place. Perhaps no one could have stopped the gradual emptying of these halls. I was apprehensive when Aeneas offered me the job all those years ago about my ability to excel, though I also didn't see the general emptying of HG coming. Perhaps I could have done more. Perhaps I am talking to shades of the past, and echoes of my voice. But I have fond memories of this place, like a captain with a old boat that can just about manage a river. I'd take that over a flashy ocean liner any day.
To be clear, then, I am resigning from my posts of Seraph of BFME2H, TWH, and FMT membership. I arrived at the conclusion a while ago, but was slow and reluctant to put it into effect, but with Atilla TW on the horizon I feel Heavengames does not need an absent member but a dynamic team that can give all that I have given in the past and more right now.
For Alas, I have finished my education. I am seeking employment, or further study. I am taking the next steps into life, and I have not been able to focus my energies at this place in the manner I would have liked for many years.
Blatant is now taking over Seraphship of this place. He asked Terikel to be able to do so, and he has my blessing.
Maybe I'll actually post more again at TWH now I do not feel the pressure of doing something (or is it guilt of not doing something? Perhaps both). I'll probably be findable on facebook- give me an e-mail if you want to find me and haven't before. I think I have most of you.
I have many strong and fond memories. Who hastwo party threads? The mafias. The arguments between friends. The love for the writings of Middle Earth. The Adventurer's Corner! I know how it ended, even if our writing never quite got there. That is one of the things I have the most pride in of all. What started as simple and a nice bit of fun morphed into something beyond many of our wildest dreams.
The partings, too. Kester, Aeneas and Sir Hugh were and are all the best. Lady A is simply an outstanding woman who was almost like an internet-mother to me at times. I remember Blatant as a forumer, and for him to reach his lofty heights is fantastic. Suicidal Scotsman I shall always miss, and wonder if I could have done more. All who I have served with or posted with in the past have some fond memory attached. Without you all I would be a very different person, and my experiences here would not have been the same, or as colourful. I am ever thankful for you all.
Our times here are often too short, and always draw to a close. But if we strive to leave someone else's world brighter with what little we have at our disposal, then perhaps that is not so bad.
Good luck, all. The road is now calling, and I must away.
