Interview with Dennis1987

An interview with Dennis1987, the winner of the Middle Earth Madness tournament. (8/12/06)

FD2: Did you play the original Battle for Middle Earth?

Dennis: Yes at the beginning, but it bothered me. I was a top 6 QM player (nickname: tuckke) and trained with my ally, Attilla all the time. We were successful in ESL. Then I retired because all strategical possibilities were known and played.

FD2: What's your favorite BFME2 faction?

Dennis Goblins I think, I liked them from the beta. They lead me to the 1st place in the EA beta tournament. They are the fastest race, which cheap units who can be really strong if you use them in a right way. If you play with Gobs its like driving a car with 200km/h on the Autobahn.

FD2: Are there any particular strategies you like, or do you just play and see what happens?

Dennis: I don't have any straight strategy. My gameplay depends on the situation, opponent style, map, and my gamefeeling. The major aspect is this gamefeeling, if you get it someday with a game, you can do nearly everything and still win, or win in unbelievable situations. I don't think that some strategies can make someone to a champion or number one. It's always more than it. Of course strategies are the basics, but you need to beat someone who is better than others if you want to be the best. You need to be something special. The strategies can be copied, the feeling of the game not.

FD2: What was your first RTS game?

Dennis: I think Warcraft 3, or Warcraft 2, when I was a little boy.

FD2: Are you interested in the LOTR world, such as the books, or just the games?

Dennis: One of my favourite books at the age around 7 was The Hobbit. It's the prehistory of the big famous LOTR books. I also watched all the movies, sure LOTR is really good history and basic entertainment. But I'm not really a sick fan of it, so I don't run around with a bow pretending to be Legolas.

FD2: Hehe. For our last question, do you have advice to newbies?

Dennis: Watch replays, and get the basics of the game and then not only try to remake the strategy of an amazing player. Sure, you can copy some moves but you have to try to invent new strategies and get own style of gaming if you have some ambitions with the game.

FD2: Thanks for your time, Dennis.
