Map Name: Blue Mountain Stronghold

Description:

I decided to make this map, because I felt that this is a map that was promised and never delivered.

It is based off of the Dwarven cities of Nogrod and Belegost found deep in the Blue Mountains.
The map is a 1vs1 skirmish/multiplayer map. It is completely indoors and thus is built for close quarters fighting. It is slightly smaller than your typical 1vs1 map, but is designed to give you a feeling of an enclosed but large space.

The map features three large rooms each uniquely designed to convey a different purpose. One player starts in the upper left, or what is effectively known as the thrown room. The other player will find themselves starting in the lower right corner at the end of the great hall. The top left player will fin themselves with plenty of room to build, where as the bottom right player although has sufficient room to build, does not have as much as the other player. This is compensated with their hall featuring both an Outpost as well as a Inn at the far end. The final room is the most unique in that it is designed as a mining hall with various details including some strategically placed goblin lairs as well as a Signal fire at the far end. Each room has many noticeable features and is designed and crafted to the best of my ability. Large entrance ways connect each room. Some intentionally built by the Dwarves others seemingly broken open. The map was built to tell a story. However it doesn't force any story upon you and their are no stipulations to how it is played.

The map is balanced to the best of my ability and is fully functional in every way as a normal skirmish/multiplayer map. The Gollum feature has even been implemented for those who enjoy using ring heroes.

This map is a testament to my previous works. It is the most polished map of the many I have made. It was a true joy to sit and design this map. I wanted it to be unique from all of my previous maps and I think I achieved my goal. I have for so long built simply fortress and script based maps that I thought it was finally time I do a map for the every day player. I hope you all enjoy playing this map as much as I did making it.

I know you have a site also and so do i. but IP is a great support group. even if you are going to retire from maping soon it would be great to have someone of your skills.

It should be me commemorating you. Your Gladiator series is by far the best of it's kind. I would even go so far to say that they are some of the best maps I have ever seen. The effort and time you put into giving each hero new powers abilities and running all of those scripts is beyond anything I could hope to achieve. I spend most of my time making my maps look good, but really that is only part of what makes a map.

This map I have made was created to fill a hole EA dug. To be honest I wasn't planning on ever mapping again, but I felt that I have never truly given anything to the community. This is the first map I have done that is directed at the everyday gamer. No fortress, No scripts, just a simple map.

I always wanted a Dwarven Hall based Skirmish map and I know many others share in that view.
So I made it a final priority to make such a map and now here it is. It isn't spectacular ground breaking or even hugely detailed, but that wasn't the goal. The goal was to make a fun 1vs1 experience with as little map interference as possible and I think I finally got it right.

Either way whether this is my last map or not, really doesn't matter, the point is I have done this for so long and seen so much that it angers me to see how little effort EA put into the game and then I turn and look at the community and see all the time and effort they put into the game, 10 times as much as EA ever did and to be honest it makes me sick. I don't know if I can take the intentional disregard for the community that EA has shown over the years. I have never been one to be angered over a game, but this time it isn't just a game it is EA's lack of respect. I may still stay for the community that has worked so hard to keep itself together, but In the end I don't think EA deserves such a great community, and for this reason I may leave for good. I wish I could give you a definitive answer as I have pondered this thought for some time.

Just know this, what you and {IP} have done is more than I could have ever hoped to accomplish

I too know how you feel. but EA games has become like a tree, a tree with many branches and leaves, and some of the branches grow bad leaves, its just the way of life. If you get my medifore.
beserkidiot great map but how bout joinin IP for rotw cos u may want to map for rotw cos ea might hav put minimal efforts into the maps again *sigh*

p.s no offence but u type too much lol...it took me 5 mins to read wot u wrote :S lol

Very balanced except if u play with goblins. U a have serious advantage(its cool and probably meant that way).But its too hard against a goblin player . That's why i didn't give a 5

Haven't seen many other "mine" maps, and the idea behind it is well thought out to.

Nice map with a good layout. The texturing has no flaws and the objects are carefully placed. Its always nice to see such a well made map, its real eyecandy. But maybe u could make a small entrance/exit to outside with little land and plant some trees(for obvious reasons lol). Also if u could block some of the walls for spiders, so they don't have "full acces" to the map.

Story/Instructions: 4.5
Excellent instructions, but u said that its meant to tell a story, and altough i see the different setups of objects, i don't "see" the story. And u kinda made me warm for it in the the description so i would like to know.

Additional Comments:
I've read what u wrote about EA and ur right, but don't let that be a reason to deny the community some great maps. Because if ppl are playing and enjoying ur maps, u should be proud and get ur drive to make maps from that. I hope to see more of ur maps.

LordRecluse Hey...I'm a bit new at this game and I got a question...where do i have to copy the map in the folder/???Cuz i cant find in my ROTWK folder somewhere where is written maps or something like that....

Thank you chiller for the review, it was much appreciated. When I was talking about the map tells a story I meant simply that if you look around the map it has been designed to set the stage for the skirmish. In essence it gives you the foundation and you finish it out. In the past I have always written out background information for the setting of the map, but this time I let it tell you itself...

As for mapping, I have no comment, but know that their are a number of factors that play into my decisions, I always think out everything before I commit to an idea or come to a conclusion. You may or may not see another of my maps, but I am sure there are enough great mappers and I wish you all the best of luck with your endeavors...

It's good to see a map of yours once again. I understand your reasons to stop mapping. It's a pity for this comunity but in the end, we are all making maps for ourselves and for sharing them with the community, and this one needs top mappers like you.
