Also, RE rule 50 - did BfME2H ever do a community mod like DA:RR at RTWH, EoJ? Just asking.

I like SWGBH, I lurk there quite a bit. One of the still vibrant communities with oldies I am somewhat familiar with.

Started at OD as a lurker (well, I visited a couple of times, before it required password entry) found AoE3H before Age3 was released, signed up, lost my password, found it, wandered back to OD, saw the Heaventrain and followed it here. Eventually I joined SpH too, when that started.

RTWH is more recent, since I finally listened to the recommendations of a friend to buy the game (after about 3 years of being told to do so), but even then I had the game for at least a year before I actually started posting.

I think that is how it went.

I should probably also thank Mythic for inspiring me to buy Med2 with his Venice; City of Canals AAR. Remind me to do that.

*edit* be fixing them there brackets

I used to post at AoE3H a lot, but not the Saloon. I kinda hated that place; the people who actually played AoE3 didn't visit there and vice-versa. That is one reason I love BFME2H; the community people actually played the game. It was a congruous community.

OD is ok, but, meh... Too random for me.

I could never work out why anyone ever played AoE3, so I can see why the people over at the Saloon didn't.

OD's got fun and games, although I mostly only post in the football thread.

I started at AoMH but I quit about 16 months ago as I don't play AoM anymore and I was only going out of habit. I got bored with BfMH2 ages ago. Yet I still come cuz I love the community. The thing I love about here is we have fairly varied religious/political views and we respect eachother. To me I never felt comfortable in the Saloon as they all seem to pretty much think the same stuff and not respect others views.

I also like the library, but there are some trollish/spammy forumers that frequent there.

The majority of the old community were "Home Grown", so to speak, which was lovely.
Yet I still come cuz I love the community. The thing I love about here is we have fairly varied religious/political views and we respect eachother.
And we used to be able to rib each other gently about it, and stop before it went too far.
And if it did, then, the forumers loved each other enough to stop.

The Saloon, in its prime, was a wonderful place. Sure, there was hideously ferocious fighting, a lack of respect for others views, what could essentially be called 'factions' of different forummers, and non-stop drama, but it really was a wonderful place. Every single person there played a huge part in the community, as warped as it was, and it really was a pleasure to be a major part of it for a while, especially at the young age I was at back then. I understand that to someone who came into it without warning or want it would be a vile place, but to the people who became a part of its dysfunctional family, it was magical. Horribly magical.

This forum also had its charm, and it was indeed far more laid back and friendly. While it did have its own infights (and I admit I was a major part of more than one of them, I was young and full of fire and didn't know any better) it was a relaxed and homely forum for a group of people significantly more accepting of outsiders and more loving of its integral members. While the friendships formed in the Saloon were often done so in spite of the community, the friendships made here were done because of it. I believe the only person who frequented both forums and saw both of them as their home during both of their golden ages other than myself was Yamato Take, a wonderful person who left at the same time as Beagle's 'death' (rather, due to it). The two forums were so diametrically opposed that it was rare for someone to be a strong member of both. In my opinion, the only way for it to happen was to go from the Saloon to here, as the opposite way would be a traumatic and futile path.

I do miss a lot of the people that visited both forums. Yamato, Beagle (who I did end up talking to a while after the incident, but only for a few emails), Mighty (who I always had a soft spot for), Atzy, Shan, Echo, Ace, Scotty (RIP), and many others. The only person I really got to know well that isn't really on the forums any more that I don't miss is Nelson, and thats because I'm going to Uni with him and when he gets back from Europe we're probably just going to meet in Manning Bar every now and then.

I think it's all these people leaving that makes me not want to really stay. I drop by every few months to see how people are, but it reminds me of all the people I was incredibly good friends with that I will never talk to again.

It doesn't feel good, though I do love all of you.

Yeah, the Saloon was like that from what I've heard. But very well put.

I might see him if he pops up to Brum, I'm not sure. We haven't really been in too much contact.

Yes, I shall be attending the fine educational institution that is the University of Sydney with Nelson. Though he is annoyed at me for not going to his house a few weeks ago to chill with him, but he got me back by going to Europe, so I think we are even.

I would recommend meeting up with him though. He's a great guy, kind of arrogant, but if you don't mind drinking you will have a wonderful time with him I'm sure.

And <3 to you EoJ :)
