Only a little more to go before the Olympics properly starts! I can't wait to see our cycling team in action, especially after Mark Cavendish's four stage wins at the Tour de France.
Looks like a good olympics anyhow. All it remains to say is good luck team GB!

Oh, and Taylor, before you start saying "We got more medals in total"... you didn't.
OK.

Welcome to the sodding world of road cycling. I would go into more detail, but for my growing outrage at FoO apparent lack of any faith in British sporting ability whatsoever.
Well, I'm at least glad China have beaten the USA.

Why? I'd rather see a the USA win rather than one which fiddles with the dates of their gymnasts' DoB.
Apparently the relay races are once again the comic elemant of the Olympics- I'm going to find a clip of it if I can

I'd much rather see China win. It's nice to see someone else at the top of the medal table for a change.

However, in Georgia, Russian troops have rampaged through the country with not much reason apart from that Georgia was doing some peacekeeping in a breakaway region.
Actually, no. South Ossetia has always been a de facto independent region, because it wants to join Russia, while Georgia doesn't want that. In fact, more than half the people there have Russian passports. And Georgia was not doing peacekeeping: Georgia was invading South Ossetia in an attempt to bring it under Georgian jurisdiction.
In Iraq, we specifically set out to A) keep Iraq from using WMDs (Bush's idea. Says it all really.) and B) Remove a dictator, Saddam, from power.
Saddam was an ally of America, and would have been a bulwark against Iran (which Bush has labeled part of the axis of evil). Taking him down was idiotic, and Iraq never had WMDs in the first place, much less could use them.
Now however we went about it, these two principles are surely just, whereas the war with Georgia is certainly not.
Russia went in to protect a de facto independent region where more than half the citizens have Russian passports. They easily managed to rout the Georgian troops, and are remaining there to protect the region. This is just.
Not to mention the fact that Russia is busy flexing its military muscles.
To protect its people.
Georgia is only the start of Russia trying to build up the USSR again, and it's all Putin's idea.
I'd say that protecting your citizens and a de facto independent region that wants to join your country is not an attempt to rebuild the USSR.

I suppose that the thousands of Russian soldiers invading Georgia itself are 'protecting Russian people' aswell?

Yes, Russia seemed to have taken it a bit far. Then again, with the South Ossetians on the loose, I'm completly sure they can pull out of Georgia for a while.
However, makes you wonder if they told them to go on the rampage- that way they could stay.

Well, it's not like Georgia can make an effective military counter-strike, seeing as OVER HALF THEIR BASES WERE BOMBED IN THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF THE WAR.

It's not like they'd be able to make one anyway.

I remember a quote from mock the week:
"Questions refused from this year's exams: Hugh Dennis.
'Putin has 1000 tanks. You have three. Why would you invade?'"
The reason why so many South Ossetians have Russian passports is because the Russians kept handing them out to the citizens. And however you look at it, South Ossetia is part of Georgia. In theory, they were invading themselves.
Saddam was an ally of America, and would have been a bulwark against Iran (which Bush has labeled part of the axis of evil). Taking him down was idiotic, and Iraq never had WMDs in the first place, much less could use them.
Except, of course, we didn't know that they didn't. I remember you saying just that not so long ago.
Russia went in to protect a de facto independent region where more than half the citizens have Russian passports. They easily managed to rout the Georgian troops, and are remaining there to protect the region. This is just.
Ah, I see. As Taylor had noted, they were "protecting" the Russo-Georgians by trying to push towards Tblisi? They were protecting them by letting South Ossetian gangs rampage around killing just about anyone that wasn't one of the stated groups?
To protect its people.
By flying a heavy bomber over Scotland?
I'd say that protecting your citizens and a de facto independent region that wants to join your country is not an attempt to rebuild the USSR.
I'd certainly say that it was. Considering they've been pushing deep into Georgia, that is.
It's not like they'd be able to make one anyway.
True. What are you meant to do against the Russian army? Apart from set Taylor on them, obviously.
