I realize that this is a little late, but today, March 8th, is the anniversary of the day that Theoden was slain by the Witch-King at the Battle of Pelennor Fields. This thread was created to honor him, so honor him you shall.

Side Note: This is also the anniversary of Denethor's death, but I don't like him because he tried to kill Faramir, who is my favorite character. However, I'll show one picture of him so noone complains.

Theoden and Denethor were both good men. Hail the victorious dead.

Denethor was bewitched by Sauron, hate him not. Greater minds than his have succumbed.

Indeed; in seizing the Palantir for good purpose he was ensnared by Sauron when he cast his gaze towards his black lands, and thus all visions he gleaned did enough to stir his despairing spirit...

Technicaly, Theoden wasn't slain by the witch king, only by his beast.

I agree that Denethor was bewitched by Sauron, and that he deserves some sympathy. However, Saruman was also bewitched, and I have not heard anyone here say something good about Saruman.

Though Curunir was bewitched, beforehand he had already sold out his heart to a secret betrayal and yearning for the Ring, dipping his subtle hand into affairs as to ascertain it ere it become known once more to the world. The Silmarillion offers insight into his downfall. He even tried to forge his own, and was fascinated too early by the daunting prospects of power; in his own greed he was caught, and it ended via a swift stab from Wormtongue near the Shire.

What is the Silmarillion?
I've heard a lot about it, I just don't know what it is.

As for Curunir, it is clearly stated that he had good intentions at first. I believe he was good when he first arrived in Middle Earth, and only then did he become seduced by power, for he would have noticed that the people there were inferior to him.

Well, actually, that occurred in the third age. We are in the seventh age, so this occurred in the past.

Yes, he died in the year 3019 of the third age. This is the year 63 of the seventh age.

I would like to honor the death of the Witch-King also. And all those poor orcs who were slaughtered on the Pelennor.

Theoden was a good king, and Denethor was strong, he was just decieved by Sauron, not controlled.

You can imagine how one would feel when it dawns on the fringe of comprehension, how one has been ultimately been manipulated. Denethor had no foreknowledge and hardly any afterknowledge of Sauron's entrapment. May the sails of Earendil's great ship be borne near the shores once more...I really wanna see it.

According to Tolkein, I think LOTR happened about 6000 years ago.

Maybe... Theoden lives.

I mean, come on, there's no way he could have not handled the horse with that much hero in his system.

Also, I find it amusing that no one has mentioned at all the amount of unnamed gondorians/rohirrim who died. It's been oliphants all the way.
