In the Lothlorien chapter of Fellowship of the ring, Sam has to cross the river by walking on a rope: and says something along the liens of 'not even my uncle andy can do that'.

Any further detail on this charecter? this is on page 450 in my edition, but might be somewhere else in other people's.

Did you check the genealogy thing at the end of Return of the King? He might be in there. I haven't seen him anywhere else in the series.

If I remember correctly, his Uncle Andy was a ropemaker, a very good one at that. That's where Sam gets his love of ropes from.
