Morgulblade22's Tricks to mapping

-Make a concept design of what you what your map to look like,it
gives you an idea of what you want your map to look like

-do "NOT" make your brush size go past 7, and always
change the current texture to put some detail in the map

-"ALWAYS" use the blend tool, no matter what!

- To make mountains, chose 3 hights, the lowest number
is widest, the second lowest is a little less wide, and
the highest hight is the thinist and the hisgest is
on top. Then feather and then use to raise tool
and scribble on about 10 feet and feather again

-on cliffs "always" feather or use apply cliff
texture!

-if making a village or a town, first make it
look like there was never a town, then
think like the settler and choose a spot
were you would want to make the village

-It is better if you make a group of trees
instead of random placement

-to make rivers look good, check out
http://bfme2.heavengames.com/worldbuilder/creating_water_bodies

-Never use more then "7" textures, about 5 textures is recomended

-Always make paths, it gives the player an idea of where to go

-when textureing, choose textures that go good with
your other textures, what not to do"mix rivendell
grass with mordor dirt"

-always give the player room to build farms, if they cant collect resources
the game will never end

-never give a player an extreemly high advantage over the other player

-for best performance of worldbuilder, close all programs

-think uniuqe, ad something that was never added before

So thats the end of my guide... Hope u learned a few things...

I attempted to learn WB, but gave up after a couple of days.

I'd love to, though. Thanks for the tips.

Nice points! Good advice on the specifics: the appropriate brush sizes, heights and other numbers. And I agree, making the landscape before placing a village is a point that is not stressed too much.

RE. Textures

I recommend:

2-3 for pathing
3-4 for mountains
1-3 for cliffs (depends on size)
5-7 for general grassland etc

This is what I've picked up from both experience and from looking at EA's maps. So 5 is not recommended. And my brush size never goes past 2/3 for texturing.

I've seen a few custom maps with their ini files changed (so you have to restart game after) and, I was wondering how to do that, like add a larger attack radius, and also how to make the spawns at different times... if thats not too hard.

and @ the best guest, well, if you are implying that if i would like to learn map.ini, that i would have to create an account on that site, my answer is - i would like to learn it because im trying to make a good map, although my question is cant you teach me? if not Morgullblade22 when he goes to his forum again?

Nice tips morgulblade, but I must warn worldbuilder newbies that it can be a bit of a time waster, I spent hours trying testing, trying testing . the sense of satisfaction after creating a mission is great, however rare it may be to come by.

But in the end, all I did was delete the missions I had laboured over. The only thing i gained was knowledge not fun!

By all means continue, enter into the world of mapping and scripting, but I bid you beware.

Does my bum look big in this? Stop staring at my face.
